HOUSTON (October 20, 2004) – Questia Media Inc., the world’s largest online academic library, today announced that it has been awarded a contract by the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) to bring Questia’s collection of 50,000 academically vetted, full-text books, 400,000 articles, and comprehensive suite of research tools to every high school in the district. Questia will supplement DISD’s physical library collection in all 22 district high schools and will be accessed by more than 14,000 eleventh and twelfth grade students.
“With Questia, DISD can now provide every student across the district with equal access to the highest quality academic resources, regardless of geography or the individual resources available at each school,” said Troy Williams, president and CEO of Questia Media. “The service enables DISD to level the playing field for their diverse student population, providing students with first-rate academic resources they need in school, as well as the modern research skills they’ll need to succeed upon graduation.”
Questia’s collection of full-text books focused in the English Language Arts and Social Studies can be accessed anytime, anywhere. As a result, DISD educators and students can utilize Questia’s research tools in classrooms, libraries, after school programs, and homes. To take advantage of Questia’s extensive content, DISD teachers will focus the use of Questia in English Language Arts classes. DISD students will be able to quickly and easily set their own workspace and reading preferences, create project folders and personal bookshelves, and automatically develop properly formatted footnotes and bibliographies in seven different citation styles.
Questia’s service enables secondary schools to supplement their current library collections without the purchase and storage costs associated with physical books. As a result, administrators can add regular and substantial additions at a fraction of the cost of purchasing physical books.
